Bhils are the largest tribal community in the State. They comprise approximately 39% of the total tribal population in the State.

Their traditional stronghold is the region around Banswara. The Bhils have maintained their numbers by mingling with the rebellious outcaste Rajputs.

The Bhils are traditionally food gatherers and fine archers.

Their skill finds a mention in both the great epics of the sub continent;

The Mahabharata and The Ramayana.Rajputs regarded Bhils as great warriors and relied on them during battles.

With changing dimensions of society and economy, Bhils are gradually settling down as food producers and even in employments.

However, superstition and witch craft are some of the inherent flaws in the community that resists scientific thinking and social progress.

Baneshwara fair is one of the biggest events among the Bhils.

Members of the community conglomerate in huge numbers and participate in the joy and festivity.

Holi is yet another occasion when members of the Bhil community come out in numbers to celebrate.
