Mandore, situated at a distance of 9 kms north of the city of Jodhpur was the capital of Marwar before Rao Jodha built the new capital at Jodhpur.
The town of Mandore remained the capital of Marwar Empire for a long time.
It is a heaven in the desert with beautifully laid out gardens.
The trees of Peepal, Banyan, Palms and Plantains along with swirling fountains and lovely peacocks make the town a visual treat for its visitors.

The town of Mandore witnessed several developments while it was the capital. The town therefore has a lot of places worth a visit such as Ajit Pol, Government Museum - Mandore, Hall of Heroes, Mandore Garden, Memorials of Maharaja Jaswant Singh and Ajit Singh, Pleasure Palace of Abhai Singh and Shrine of 33 Crore Gods.
Government Museum, Mandore has a possession of valuable treasure like carved cenotaphs.
The Hall of Heroes houses sixteen gigantic statues carved out of a single rock apart from the cenotaphs of the former Maharajas of Jodhpur.
The hall also displays painted portrayal of local heroes like Pabuji and Chamunda.
The rulers of the Rathore dynasty were cremated at Mandore.
Therefore the town also houses the royal cremation ground where the memorials of Maharaja Jaswant Singh and Maharaja Ajit Singh are located. |

Maharaja Ajit Singh was cremated along with six of his queens and 58 concubines. Several Hindu and Jain temples are also located there.
The ancient town of Ossian is located at a distance of 65 kms from the city of Jodhpur. It is widely known for Hindu and Jain temples that date back to 8th and 11th centuries.
